Pattern Description

This wool shawl is worked in the style of a traditional Hap (with updated construction techniques), worn by the working women of Shetland. Hap shawls were made as utilitarian garments to help shield from the harsh weather conditions of the Northern Scottish Isles. Shetland knitters used the “Old Shale” lace frame as a wonderful canvas for color experimentation; my colored version contrasts warm and cool browns to create the telltale border gradient.
