  Squishy brioche stitch gets its volume turned up when worked in chunky-weight Arbor Lodge or Quarry. The strong geometric lines of this favorite stitch pattern highlight the garment’s unique shaping.

  The sweater is full of thoughtful details, including a short-row shaped neckband to improve fit at center-back neck, decorative waist and v-neck design lines, and a clean corded selvedge edge trimming the cardigan opening for a polished, minimal finish.

• Pattern specs

  CONSTRUCTION

  • Stitches are cast on for first half of collar extension. A set of short rows is worked at the base of collar extension to improve fit at the center-back neck. After short rows are complete, the extension is worked even until it measures half the target length. The live stitches are placed on waste yarn or holder. Stitches are picked up from the cast-on edge for second half of collar extension. The second half is worked with short rows mirroring the first half.
  • Stitches are picked up along long edge of collar extension, held stitches are returned to the working needle, and raglan markers are placed. The raglan shaping is begun, increasing at four marked points to create the yoke. The collar will continue being worked at the beginning and end of each row throughout yoke. After a few inches of yoke have been worked, V-neck markers will be placed and V-neck shaping will begin to be worked concurrently as the yoke continues.
  • Upon completion of raglan yoke, body and sleeves are divided and worked separately. Sleeve stitches are placed on hold to be completed later. Work continues over body stitches only, with stitches cast on at the underarms, and V-neck shaping resumed as established. Optional buttonholes may be worked on either of the front bands.
  • Gentle waist shaping is worked on the back only to remove a small amount of ease in the lower body and improve the fit. The body is worked to your chosen length (semi-cropped/classic/tall) then finished with a 1x1 ribbed hem on smaller needles.
  • Sleeve stitches are returned to needles. Stitches are picked up at the underarm (directly from the body’s underarm stitches) and the sleeve is worked circularly from the top down to desired length.
  • A set of short rows is worked before the cuff to balance out the decorative increases at the center sleeve, then a 1x1 ribbed cuff is worked on smaller needles.
