• Product description

  This simple scarf is a great pattern for beginning lace knitters, or anyone wanting to practice their knitted-on edging technique. Worked in two colors, it’s a great project to help teach knitters how to see the relationship between both parts of the project (center lace panel & edging). The Small Version shows a color combination with high contrast, while the Large Version’s colors are subtle and tonal. You may wish to work yours all in one color. As always, Knitter’s preference!

  • Fingering weight wool yarn: approximately 300 (425) yards of Main Color (MC) & 105 (130) yards of Trim Color (TC)

  CONSTRUCTION

  • The lace Center Panel is worked first and begins with a Provisional Cast On. If working your scarf with two colors, this section is worked with Main Color (MC).
  • Upon completion of the Center Panel, you will work a knitted-on lace edging that attaches to the perimeter of the Center Panel as it is worked. If working your scarf with two colors, this section is worked with Trim Color (TC).

  
  

  GAUGE

  • 18 stitches & 24 rows = 4″ over Center Panel lace motif; relaxed after lace-blocking

  
  

  NEEDLES

  • One pair of straights or circulars in size needed to obtain gauge One 40″ circular needle & one DPN one size smaller than Gauge Needle
  • Suggested Sizes: US 5 (3¾mm) & US 4 (3½mm)

  
  

  FINISHED DIMENSIONS

  12 November 2013: (Version 1.1):

  In order to accommodate knitter’s chosen method of provisional CO, the first two rows after CO have been revised to be worked as follows: “Row 1 (RS): Slip 1 purlwise with yarn in back, knit 4, k2tog, knit to the end of row. Upon completion of this round, you will have 31 (44) stitches on your needle. Row 2 (WS): Slip 1 purlwise with yarn in front, purl 4, p2tog, purl to the end of row. 31 (44) stitches remain.”
