    • 11 (12, 14, 15, 16, 17) skeins of Brooklyn Tweed Shelter (100% American Targhee-Columbia wool; 140 yards/50g)

  • Pattern specs

    CONSTRUCTION

    • The pieces are worked flat and sewn together. The pocket linings are worked first, then incorporated into the fronts as they are worked. The collar extensions are worked from each front and joined at the back neck with Joinery Bind Off, then the collar edge is sewn to the back neck.


    FINISHED DIMENSIONS

    • 37½ (41½, 45, 49, 52½, 56½)” circumference at chest
    • Sample shown is size 41½” with + 8½” ease on model

    GAUGE

    • 17 stitches & 28 rows = 4″ in stockinette stitch with Size A needle(s), after blocking
    • 24 stitches & 28 rows = 4″ in 1×1 Ribbing with Size A needle(s), after blocking


    NEEDLES

    Size A (for Main Fabric)

    • One pair of straight needles or a 32″ circular needle* in size needed to obtain gauge listed
    • Suggested Size: 5 mm (US 8)


    Size B (for Ribbing)

    • One pair of straight needles or a 32″ circular needle*, two sizes smaller than Size A
    • Suggested Size: 4 mm (US 6)


    Size C (optional; for Tubular Cast On and Bind Off only)

    • One 32″ circular needle and one spare circular needle (any length), one size smaller than Size B
    • Suggested Size: 3¾ mm (US 5)


    *Knitter’s preferred style of needle may be used

    Note: If you have adjusted the needle size to obtain the correct gauge, it may or may not be necessary to make a matching adjustment to the needle size used for Tubular Cast On due to variance in individual work. You may wish to test your chosen cast-on method on your swatch.

    On Page 12, the Special Technique for 2×2 Tubular Cast On for Fronts Only has been modified for the following 3 rows, as follows:

    Row 3 (Tubular Row; RS): Knit 1, *bring yarn to front, slip 1 purlwise, bring yarn to back; repeat from * to last stitch, knit 1.  

    Row 4 (Tubular Row; WS): Repeat Row 2. 

    Left Front Only: Rearrange Stitches for 2×2 and 1×1 Ribbing (RS facing; Non-working): Slip 1, *slip next stitch (a purl stitch) onto CN and hold in back, slip 1 (a knit stitch) from L to R needle, slip 1 from CN to R needle, slip 2 (1 purl stitch, 1 knit stitch) from L to R needle; repeat from * to last 16 stitches, slip remaining stitches to R needle. Slide stitches back to other end of needle to work next row.

    Right Front Only: Row 6 (Tubular Row; WS): *Bring yarn to front, slip 2 purlwise, bring yarn to back, knit 2; repeat from * to last 21 stitches, bring yarn to front, slip 2 purlwise, bring yarn to back, k2tog, **bring yarn to front, slip 1 purlwise, bring yarn to back, knit 1; repeat from ** to last stitch, bring yarn to front, slip 1 purlwise. (1 stitch decreased)
