How to Knit: Invisible Lifted Increases
Learn to work invisible lifted increases! This increase method blends beautifully into your fabric and doesn't leave a hole. In this tutorial, we show you how to work right and left-leaning knitted and purled invisible lifted increases on both sides of your stockinette fabric.
Written Steps
Inv-R (Invisible Increase Right): Insert tip of R needle into R leg of stitch below first stitch on L needle from back to front, lifting this stitch up onto L needle tip. Knit the lifted stitch through the leading leg (through the back loop if stitch is mounted backward, to avoid twisting), then slip the original stitch purlwise with yarn to WS. (1 stitch increased; leans right)
Inv-L (Invisible Increase Left): Slip next stitch purlwise with yarn to WS, insert tip of L needle into the L leg of stitch in the row below the stitch just slipped to R needle from back to front, lifting this stitch up onto L needle tip. Knit the lifted stitch through the leading leg (through the back loop if stitch is mounted backward, to avoid twisting). (1 stitch increased; leans left)
Inv-Rp (Invisible Increase Right-purl): Place the R leg of the stitch below first stitch on L needle onto L needle and purl it through the leading leg (through the back loop if stitch is mounted backward, to avoid twisting), then slip the original stitch purlwise from L needle with yarn to WS. (1 stitch increased; leans right)
Inv-Lp (Invisible Increase Left-purl): Slip next stitch purlwise from L to R needle with yarn to WS, lift the L leg of the stitch in the row below the slipped stitch and place it on L needle. Purl the lifted stitch through the leading leg (through the back loop if stitch is mounted backward, to avoid twisting). (1 stitch increased; leans left)
