Perch

Lace Half Hap Shawl
Skill Level: 3 of 5
Regular price $10.00

Drape yourself in timeless texture with the Perch Shawl, a triangular half hap in featherweight Loft. Perch begins at its center point with Old Shale lace that then grows outward rather like alluvial fans. This motif is interrupted by regular intervals of stockinette, creating rippling bands that look handsome from both right and wrong sides. Concentrated at the edges are yarnover increases for width. This placement omits the center spine found in most triangular shawls, allowing the motif to traverse the full expanse of the fabric, to be finished with a prim and elegant yarnover edging.

CONSTRUCTION

  • This shawl is constructed using a traditional Shetland method. The center triangle is worked from the bottom up first, beginning with 1 stitch. Stitches are increased by working a yarn over (YO) at the beginning of every row. For the edging, stitches are then picked up from the yarn over loops on the edges of the center triangle, and the edging section is worked outwards from these stitches.
