Textured Colorwork Yoke Pullover
Skill Level: 2 of 5
Regular price $15.00

"I love knitting allover texture stitches and for this pullover I was interested in creating a yoke with tactile appeal that still kept the stitches simple; knits, purls, and slip stitches are all that are needed to create a sweater full of dimension. This easy-to-work top down pullover utilizes bands of slip stitches and purl stitches in combination to create a “motte” stitch, mounded purl bumps fortified with a slip stitch surround. Knitters can keep the texture in the foreground by working the garment in one color or add in contrasting colors on selected rounds as shown to shift the perspective." — designer, Lis Smith

Pattern Specs

CONSTRUCTION

  • Pullover is worked top-down circularly starting with the collar. Stitches are cast on, in the round, for a neckband worked in 1x1 ribbing.
  • A series of short rows are worked to shape the back neck.
  • After the short rows are resolved, the textured yoke is worked with increase rounds until the full circumference of the yoke is achieved.
  • Two contrast colors are used on specific rounds of the yoke to achieve the effect shown in the samples. You may follow our examples as given or alternate colors as you choose on those rounds, making up your own pattern. You may use more than two contrast colors for an even more vibrant effect or work the whole garment only in the main color, for a yoke that highlights texture over color.
  • Stitches are put on hold for both left and right sleeves while the body of the garment is worked.
  • The body is worked circularly to the hem, with instructions for both a straight and tapered body provided.
  • Once the body is completed, sleeve stitches are separately returned to working needle and worked circularly to the cuff. Instructions are provided for both short and long sleeves.
