This scarf is a simple piece of stockinette that undergoes patterned fabric manipulation as it is worked. The sculptural folds are created by way of lifting selected stitches from several rows below and working them together with live stitches from your current row, in the same manner as a Three-Needle Bind Off. The final page of the pattern includes a helpful tutorial on working these Lifted Stitch Gathers. Follow the instructions for a scarf with a finished length of either of the three sizes, or, if you prefer to use every last yard of your yarn, continue working pattern repeats until you have approximately 6g of yarn leftover and proceed to final instruction for finishing hem.

    • Scarf is worked flat from end to end.


    GAUGE

    • 17 stitches & 25 rows = 4″ in Stockinette Stitch with Gauge Needle
    • 20 stitches & 32 rows = 4″ in Nero (charted) Pattern with Gauge Needle, relaxed after blocking


    NEEDLES

    • One pair of straight or circular needles in size needed to obtain gauge An additional circular needle four sizes smaller than Gauge Needle
    • Suggested sizes: US 9/5.5 mm & US 5/3.75 mm


    FINISHED DIMENSIONS

  • Pattern Updates

    4 December 2012: Version 2.0

    The original cast-on number was changed from 28 to 29. Instructions were then added to decrease this additional stitch out on Row 1. In this way, you will have the correct number of stitches on your needle when picking out the provisional cast on (28 stitches; always one less than the total number cast on provisionally).


    12 November 2013: Version 2.1

    The decrease added in Version 2.0 has been moved from Row 1 to Row 2, in order to accommodate knitter’s chosen method of provisional CO, as follows:

    Row 1 (WS): Purl all stitches.  

    Row 2 (RS): Knit 3, k2tog, knit to the end of row. (1 stitch decreased).
