CONSTRUCTION

• The center portion, which is worked first, is a simple garter stitch square that involves no shaping.
• The Lace Frame is worked in the round and picked up directly from the fabric of the completed Center Square. A double increase is worked at each of the four corners on every other row to shape the frame.
• The shawl is completed with a traditional Knitted On Edging. This technique removes the need for a standard (inelastic) bind-off edge.
• Instructions for Small size appear first, followed by Large size. If only one set of instructions appears, it applies to both sizes.

GAUGE

• 19 stitches and 19 ridges (38 rows) = 4″ in Garter Stitch, relaxed after lace-blocking

NEEDLES

• One 32″ circular needle in size needed to obtain gauge
• Suggested Size: US 5 (3¾ mm)

FINISHED DIMENSIONS

• 40″ x 40″ (50″ x 50″) square, relaxed after lace-blocking

Large Size, Five-Color Version

• 1375 yards/1258 meters of MC; 200 yards/183 meters of C1; 165 yards/151 meters of C2; 210 yards/193 meters of C3; 200 yards/183 meters of C4

• For Large, Single-Color Version, you will need approximately 2150 yards/1966 meters.
