Product description

“While I was preparing for this collection, I realized that there was a common “stripes” theme running through my garment designs, which continued (quite unintentionally) with the concept for this poncho. The use of minimal colorwork brings this poncho to life, without overwhelming it. A ribbed edging and I-Cord neckline add finishing details that elevate it from simple accessory to something very special.” – Julie Hoover

    CONSTRUCTION

    • Poncho is worked circularly in stockinette stitch and stranded colorwork from the bottom up.
    • The poncho is worked with a steek. The steek for this poncho is worked over 2 stitches (first and last stitches of round), using C1 only (for 1-color rounds) or both C1 and C2 held together (for 2-color rounds) depending on which round you are working. The steek forms an edge facing after it is cut open. Stitches are picked up along the edge facing, and the hem is worked in 2x2 Ribbing.
    • A shoulder seam is worked from hem edge to neck opening edge. The neck is finished with an I-cord Bind Off.

    FINISHED DIMENSIONS

    SIZES 1 (2, 3, 4)

    • 60½ (64½, 69, 73)” circumference
    • 30¼ (32¼, 34½, 36½)” width
    • 23¼ (23¾, 24½, 26¼)” length
    • Sample shown is size 2 on model with 34" chest

    GAUGE

    • 23 stitches & 34 rows = 4″ in stockinette stitch with Size A needle, after blocking
    • 23 stitches & 34 rounds = 4″ in stockinette stitch and colorwork chart with Size B needle, after blocking
    • 22 stitches & 32 rows = 4″ in 2×2 Ribbing, with Size A needle, slightly stretched after blocking

    NEEDLES

Size A (for Main Fabric and Ribbing):

    • One 32″ (or longer) circular needle in size needed to obtain gauge
    • Suggested Size: 3¾ mm (US 5)

Size B (for stranded colorwork pattern from charts):

    • One 32″ (or longer) circular needle one size larger than Size A
    • Suggested Size: 4 mm (US 6)

Due to significant variance between knitters, your colorwork fabric should be swatched prior to knitting to determine whether or not this needle size should be larger, smaller or equal to Size A.
