Product description

This warm winter hat plays with traditional color motifs using a muted palette of greys and white. The ear flaps, which are picked up and worked last, feature a duplicate stitch motif and I-cord tassels. Add an optional pom-pom on top for a whimsical look, or leave it off for a cleaner silhouette. Stitch gauges between stranded and one-color fabrics should match – your individual tension may require two different needle sizes for these sections of the pattern. If you’re unsure, make a couple of quick swatches to check your gauge.

    CONSTRUCTION

    • The main body of the hat is worked first – circularly – from the bottom up.
    • Both earflaps are picked up from the base of the hat and worked second – back and forth – from the top down. After shaping of the earflaps is complete, you will work an I-cord tassel with the remaining stitches.
    • An optional pom-pom can be added to the top of the hat during finishing.

    GAUGE

    • 20 stitches & 28 rows/rounds = 4″ in Stockinette with Gauge Needle
    • 20 stitches & 24 rounds = 4″ in Stranded Colorwork pattern with Colorwork Gauge Needle

Note: You may require a slightly larger needle when working colorwork to achieve matching stitch gauge. We recommend swatching to check your gauges.

    NEEDLES

    • One 16″ circular and one pair of DPNs in size needed to obtain Stockinette (one-color) Gauge
    • Suggested Size: US 7 (4½ mm)

An additional 16″ circular may be needed in the size that gets you correct Colorwork Gauge for charted section of hat If you are knitting using the Magic Loop Method, the entire pattern can be worked on one long (32″+) circular

    FINISHED DIMENSIONS

    • 19½” circumference & 7¾” height from brim to top of crown; measurements given are for unstretched hat

    • To fit head sizes 19-23½” comfortably

Please note: the stitch patterns in this garment are charted only.
