Garter Stitch Shawl
Skill Level: 4 of 5
Regular price $11.00
(PDF)

Wrap up in a light and cozy triangular shawl with bold, effective color play. Level uses the intarsia technique to establish overlapping partial stripes and color blocking. Only two colors interact at once, so this pattern is a good way to gain confidence at the technique. German short rows alter the geometry of the lower edge to create new triangles. Choose the small size to warm your shoulders or the larger dimensions if you want to bundle up. Both versions use three colors of Loft— a light, a bright, and a dark shade will produce a high contrast Level, while more closely related hues will yield a more nuanced effect.

CONSTRUCTION

  • This garter stitch shawl begins with the striped center triangle, worked from the bottom up. Stitches for the solid triangles are picked up and knit along the yarn over edges of the striped center triangle. The solid triangles are worked simultaneously, switching colors at the bottom point of the shawl using the Intarsia Method, and are shaped using Short Rows: German Method.
