Product description

Kimmswick puts a modern twist on one of knitting’s most traditional and well-loved styles — the Shetland tube scarf. Worked circularly throughout at a relaxed gauge, the double-layer of stranded fabric creates a lusciously soft and pliable garment. Large graphic diamonds adorn each end of the scarf while smaller stripe and check patterns fill the center area. Work bold or neutral color schemes in woolen-spun Loft for a well-blended painterly effect, or in worsted-spun Peerie to render the motifs crisply, like stained glass.

    CONSTRUCTION

    • Scarf is worked circularly as a tube, beginning with a Provisional Cast On. The beginning and end are closed using Joinery Bind Off.

    GAUGE

    • 25 stitches and 28 rounds = 4″ in charted colorwork with Size A needle, after blocking

    NEEDLES

    Size A (for Colorwork)

    • One 16″ circular needle* in size needed to obtain gauge listed
    • Suggested Size: 4 mm (US 6)

Size B (for Single-Color Rounds of Stockinette Stitch)

    • One 16″ circular needle*, one size smaller than Size A
    • Suggested Size: 3.75 mm (US 5)

Due to significant variance among knitters, your colorwork fabric should be swatched and wet-blocked prior to knitting your scarf to determine whether or not Size B should be larger, smaller or equal to Size A.

*32” circular needle can be used instead of 16” circular needle if using the Magic Loop method for working small circumferences in the round.

    FINISHED DIMENSIONS

    • 8″ [20.5 cm] width; 16″ [40.5 cm] circumference; 72″ [183 cm] long

Measurements taken from relaxed fabric after blocking.

Please note: the stitch patterns in this garment are charted only.

  • Pattern Updates

    19 February 2013: (Version 2.0):

We have corrected the written and charted instructions for the diagonal pattern sections, which are a 9-stitch repeat rather than a 10-stitch repeat as previously written. You will work the 10th stitch on the chart in that section only once, as the final stitch of the round.
