  Designed to be a piece for all seasons, Boardwalk is a light and simple layering or standalone vest with just the right amount of architectural detail to delight the hands while knitting and catch the eye when wearing. Its mitered welt neck feature (which mirrors the hem and cap sleeves) is akin to the geometry of gently weathered decks, benches, and boardwalks — true and fond reminders of slow summer walk by the beach. Work this piece in Peerie for a strikingly crisp effect or in Loft for a subtler, tweedy air.

• Pattern specs

  CONSTRUCTION

  • Top is constructed from the bottom up.
  • The lower front and back hems are worked separately first, then joined to continue working the body circularly to the armholes, forming side slits where the separate pieces were joined. The body is then divided for front and back, which are worked flat separately to the shoulders, with the sleeves directly attached. Short rows are used to shape the shoulders, and then the tops of the sleeves and shoulders are neatly joined with a Joinery Bind Off.
  • Lastly, stitches are picked up around the neckline to complete the mitered neck detail.

   On page 7, under Shape Right Shoulder, the following changes have been made: 

   Next 2 Rows: Work in pattern as established. 

  Next Row (RS): Knit until 5 stitches remain before the marker, wrap and turn.
