Product description

A classic circular shawl in meditative lace begins with just a few stitches at the center point and grows according to Elizabeth Zimmermann’s pi shaping principles. Rings of eyelets inspired by ripples in still water make for easy lace knitting, with bands of tranquil stockinette as resting rows throughout. Halo is written for two sizes, 46” and 54”, and suggestions are given for further customizing the pattern to your desired size. The lace edging requires working from a simple chart. Knit in Loft, this shawl is light and warm when folded to wear about the shoulders; it also makes a handsome bedspread or sofa throw.

Halo is also available as part of Jared Flood’s first print book, WOOLENS.

Designer: Jared Flood

Collection: Woolens

    CONSTRUCTION

    • The shawl is worked from the center out, beginning with a Circular Cast On. It uses traditional Pi Shawl construction (Elizabeth Zimmermann’s method) and is shaped using concentric rings of increases.

    GAUGE

    • 17 stitches & 28 rounds = 4” in stockinette stitch, after blocking
    • Note: Finished gauge will vary once shawl is blocked into circular shape.

    NEEDLES

    • One each 16″ and 32″ circular needles and one set of double-pointed needles (DPNs)* in size needed to obtain gauge listed
    • Suggested Size: 3¾ mm (US 5)

*32″ circular needle can be used instead of DPNs if using the Magic Loop Method for working small circumferences in the round (e.g., the center of the shawl).

    • Small (Large) Shawl 46 (54)” [117 (137.5) cm] diameter
    • Measurements taken from relaxed fabric after lace blocking.
